Sustainable heat generation – made to measure
Did you know that one pig produces 0.5m³ of manure per year? That is quite a lot, even for an average fattening farm. This liquid manure is stored temporarily, which naturally produces gases.
In order to use these biogases in a sustainable and sensible way, the company Nenufar in France has developed and patented a manure cover, which is made to measure from HEYgreen material. The cover floats on the slurry and includes a pneumatic frame and a ballast system. This captures the biogas naturally produced in the pit and stores it to allow it to be utilised. In the process, rainwater is additionally pumped out of the pit.
The biogas recovered in this way is used, among other things, for:
Heat generation: The biogas can be converted into heat and thus provides heating for stables.
Power generation: Forwarding to combined heat and power plants for hot water and electricity generation.
Optimisation of methanisation plant: The cover is installed on an upstream storage shaft for slurry or fermentation residues to recover residual biogas. Directly fed back into the gas sky of the existing digester, the sales turnover of electricity and biomethane increases.

Materials from the HEYgreen biogas range, developed for use in biogas membranes with high methane gas resistance, are used here.
The pneumatic frame is made of biogas type II (H5257), the cover of biogas type II TRAS (H3654). The latter is flame-retardant in accordance with DIN 4102 B1 and has an antistatic finish, thus meeting the requirements of TRAS 120.
The material thus meets the following requirements:
- Flame retardant (DIN 4102 B1)
- Methasgarpermiabel ≤500 cm³/(m²*d*bar)
- Antistatic (surface resistance between 104 Ω – 1011 Ω (23°C, 30% rel. LF)
- Maximum tensile force ≥3000 N/5cm
- Reflectance of the outer membrane (wavelength range from 0.8 to 14µm this should be > 0.5 to avoid increased material temperatures and the response of overpressure and underpressure fuses).
Biogas plants make an important contribution to environmental protection by generating energy from biomass. HEYgreen materials are precisely matched to the requirements of the various process steps. They therefore make a significant contribution to safety and efficiency!
